Nickel Alloy-Alloy 625

Alloy N06625 (commonly known as Inconel 625) is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum-niobium alloy renowned for its exceptional resistance to corrosion, oxidation, and high-temperature strength. It is non-magnetic and maintains excellent mechanical properties from cryogenic temperatures up to 1800°F (982°C). The alloy is strengthened primarily by solid-solution hardening due to the addition of molybdenum and niobium, rather than by heat treatment.

Corrosion Resistance

Exhibits outstanding resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking in chloride-containing environments (e.g., seawater, chemical processing).
Highly resistant to oxidizing and reducing acids, including sulfuric, hydrochloric, phosphoric, and nitric acids.
Performs well in alkaline solutions and molten salts.
Resists intergranular attack due to low carbon content and stabilization by niobium.

High-Temperature Performance

Retains high strength and creep resistance up to 982°C (1800°F).
Forms a stable, adherent Cr₂O₃-rich oxide layer that provides excellent oxidation resistance in air and combustion gases.
Resists carburization and sulfidation in high-temperature process streams.
Suitable for long-term service in aerospace exhaust systems, furnace components, and gas turbines.

Fabrication & Weldability

Readily fabricated by hot/cold working, machining, and welding.
Excellent weldability using **GTAW **(TIG), **GMAW **(MIG), **SMAW **(stick), and resistance welding.
No preheat or post-weld heat treatment required.
Filler metals: **ERNiCrMo-3 **(Inconel 625) or **ERNiCrMo-4 **(C-276) for dissimilar joints.
